About the switch pro controller test

    Updated

The Switch Pro Controller test reads your controller through the browser's Gamepad API, the same way PC games do, and shows every button and the exact position of both sticks. Stick drift shows up as a stick that reports movement while you aren't touching it. ZL and ZR on the Pro Controller are digital buttons, so they show as fully pressed or released rather than a range.

    How to use it

    1. Pair the controller over Bluetooth: hold the small sync button on top until the lights run, then pick it in your computer's Bluetooth settings. A USB-C data cable also works.
    2. Press any button so the browser detects the controller.
    3. Press every button, including ZL, ZR and both stick clicks, and check each one lights up.
    4. Let go of both sticks and check their values rest at or very near zero.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I know if my Pro Controller has stick drift?

Leave both sticks untouched. A value that wanders or rests well away from zero means drift. Our stick drift guide covers calibration, cleaning and repair.

Why are the A and B buttons swapped?

Browsers use a standard Xbox-style layout, where the bottom button is first. On a Nintendo controller that's B, so names can look swapped. What matters is that every button lights up.

    Does this work with Joy-Con?

Partly. A single Joy-Con paired by Bluetooth usually shows up, but each one appears as its own controller and support depends on your browser and operating system.
