About the microphone test
Updated
The microphone test shows your input level and a live frequency spectrum, lets you choose between microphones, and toggles echo cancellation, noise suppression and automatic gain. You can record a clip and play it back to hear exactly what other people hear on a call. Audio is processed locally and is never uploaded.
How to use it
- Allow microphone access when your browser asks.
- Pick the microphone you want to test if you have more than one.
- Speak at a normal volume and check that the input level moves.
- Record a short clip and play it back to judge clarity and background noise.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the level stay flat?
The wrong input may be selected, the mic may be muted in your system settings, or the browser may have been denied permission. Check the site permissions in the address bar.
Should I turn noise suppression on?
Turn it on for calls in noisy rooms. Turn it off when you want to hear the raw signal, for example to judge a new microphone.
Is my recording saved anywhere?
No. The recording stays in your browser's memory and is discarded when you leave the page.
