Privacy policy
Short version: the tests run on your device, and we never see your camera, microphone or sensor data.
Data from the tests
All tests run locally in your browser. Camera video, microphone audio, recordings, key presses, touch input and sensor readings are processed on your device and are never sent to us or stored on a server. Recordings are kept in your browser's memory and discarded when you leave the page.
The camera and microphone are only switched on after you grant permission in your browser, and you can revoke it at any time from your browser's site settings.
The network test sends small requests to Cloudflare (1.1.1.1), Google and Amazon Web Services to measure latency. Like any web request, those services receive your IP address under their own privacy policies.
Analytics and hosting
Tapcheck is hosted on Cloudflare, which processes standard request data such as IP address and browser type to deliver and protect the site. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits. It does not use cookies or track you across sites.
We also use Google Analytics to understand which pages and tests people use. It records the pages you visit, how you got here, and general details such as your browser, device type and approximate location, and it sets cookies (named _ga) to tell visits apart.
To improve the site we also record how it's used: which links and buttons are clicked, what is typed into the site search, which settings are changed, how far pages are scrolled, page speed, errors, and whether a permission prompt (camera, microphone, location, motion or MIDI) was allowed or refused. For some tests we record the final score, such as clicks per second, reaction time, typing speed, mouse DPI, refresh rate, network latency or a CPU benchmark score. We never record camera video, microphone audio, what you type in a test, individual key presses, your location coordinates, hearing results or noise levels. Google processes this data under its privacy policy. You can opt out with Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on or by blocking cookies for this site.
Advertising and cookies
We use Google AdSense to show ads. Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites. You can learn how Google uses data from sites that use its services, and opt out of personalised advertising in Google's Ads Settings.
Tapcheck itself stores a few small preferences on your device: whether the sidebar is open (a cookie), and whether sound effects are on and the announcement banner is dismissed (local storage). None are used for tracking.
Children, changes and contact
Tapcheck is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their personal information. If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
