    About the spacebar counter

    Updated

The spacebar counter counts how many times you press the spacebar within a set time and divides by the length of the test to give your presses per second. You can choose 5, 10, 30 or 60 seconds. Holding the key down counts as one press, because the key repeats your system sends are ignored, and the page doesn't scroll while the test is running. On a touch screen you can tap the large test area instead.

    How to use it

    1. Choose a test length.
    2. Press the spacebar, or tap the test area, to start the timer.
    3. Keep pressing as fast as you can until the timer reaches zero.
    4. Read your presses per second and try to beat your best score.

    Frequently asked questions

    Does holding the spacebar count?

Only once. While a key is held, your computer sends repeat events, and the counter ignores them. Each press has to be a new press of the key.

Why are some of my presses not counted?

A worn or dirty spacebar switch can miss presses, especially near the ends of the bar. If your count seems low, check the key in the keyboard test.

Can I use it on a phone?

Yes. Tap the test area instead of pressing a key. Each tap counts as one press.
