    About the cpu benchmark

    Updated

The CPU benchmark runs the same JavaScript workload, a prime sieve plus integer hashing and floating-point math, inside Web Workers for five seconds on a single thread and then for five seconds on as many threads as your browser reports logical cores. It reports work units per second for each phase, the multi-core scaling factor and the core count, and checks every result so a broken run is never scored. Runs are kept while the page is open so you can compare them.

    How to use it

    1. Close heavy apps and tabs, and plug in a laptop.
    2. Press Start benchmark and wait about 11 seconds without using the page.
    3. Read the single-thread score, the multi-thread score and the scaling factor.
    4. Run it two or three more times and compare the results in the session table.

    Frequently asked questions

Can I compare my score with a different browser?

No. The score measures how fast your browser's JavaScript engine runs the workload, so it differs between Chrome, Firefox and Safari. Compare devices in the same browser.

Why is the scaling factor lower than my core count?

Hyper-threads, efficiency cores, shared caches and lower all-core clock speeds all mean each extra thread adds less than a full core. A factor well below the core count is normal.

Why does my score change between runs?

Heat, battery-saver modes and background apps change how fast the processor runs. A score that drops on every run usually means thermal throttling.
