    About the refresh rate test

    Updated

The refresh rate test times every frame your browser draws. Browsers draw one frame per display refresh, so the median time between frames gives your screen's real refresh rate. It shows the raw measurement, the nearest standard rate such as 60, 144 or 240 Hz, the frame time in milliseconds and the jitter between frames, plus a motion strip that makes dropped frames visible.

    How to use it

    1. Close other tabs and heavy apps, and keep this tab in front.
    2. Wait about five seconds for the reading to settle.
    3. Compare the refresh rate with what your monitor is sold as.
    4. If it's lower, change the rate in your display settings and measure again.

    Frequently asked questions

Why does my 144 Hz monitor show 60 Hz?

The rate is usually set in software. On Windows, open Settings > Display > Advanced display and pick the higher rate. Also check the cable: older HDMI cables and ports can't carry high refresh rates at full resolution.

Why does the reading jump around?

Background work, other tabs or a power-saving mode can make the browser skip frames. Close other apps, plug in your laptop and measure again.

    Does this work on phones?

Yes. Phones with adaptive refresh rates may report a lower rate when the screen is still or in battery saver mode.
