    About Tapcheck

Free hardware tests that run in your browser, so you can check a keyboard, screen, mic or controller in seconds without installing anything.

    Why we built it

Checking whether a key, speaker or webcam actually works usually means downloading a utility you'll use once. Tapcheck puts 46 focused tests in one place instead. Each one shows you live, plain results: a key lights up, a tone plays on one side, a stick moves on screen.

People use it to check a new or second-hand laptop, track down a dead key or stuck pixel, get a mic and camera ready before a call, or confirm a controller has stick drift before sending it for repair.

    How the tests work

Every test uses standard browser APIs: keyboard and pointer events, the Web Audio API, media capture for the camera and microphone, the Gamepad API, WebGL, and the device sensor APIs. Everything runs on your device. Camera video, microphone audio and sensor readings are never recorded on a server or uploaded.

A browser can only see what your operating system shares with it. Some things are out of reach: the Fn key, battery wear, the exact GPU model in some browsers, and memory above 8 GB. Each test's FAQ explains its limits so you know when a result is a real fault and when it's a browser restriction.
