About the smartphone check
Updated
The smartphone check runs on your phone's browser and tests hardware you can't easily check otherwise: the vibration motor, the motion sensors (gyroscope and accelerometer readings on all three axes), the proximity sensor, the network connection and touch response. It's useful before buying or selling a used phone.
How to use it
- Open this page on the phone you want to test.
- Work through each panel from top to bottom.
- Allow motion and sensor access if your browser asks.
- Tilt and rotate the phone and confirm the sensor readings change smoothly.
Frequently asked questions
Why doesn't vibration work on my iPhone?
Safari on iOS doesn't support the web Vibration API, so the vibration test only works on Android browsers.
Why are the gyroscope values zero?
On iPhone you must tap to grant motion access. On other phones, the browser may block sensors on insecure pages or in private mode.
Can I use it to check a used phone?
Yes. Running every panel takes a couple of minutes and catches common faults such as a dead vibration motor or a failed sensor.
