About the mouse polling rate test

    Updated

Polling rate is how often your mouse reports its position to the computer: 125 Hz for many office mice, 1000 Hz for most gaming mice, and up to 8000 Hz for some newer models. This test counts every movement report the browser receives while you move the mouse and shows the live, peak and average rate, plus the standard setting your mouse is most likely using.

    How to use it

    1. Put the pointer inside the test pad.
    2. Move the mouse quickly in circles for a few seconds.
    3. Read the peak rate and the likely setting.
    4. Change the polling rate in your mouse software and test again to confirm it took effect.

    Frequently asked questions

Why does my 4000 Hz mouse show around 1000 Hz?

Browsers and operating systems can drop or merge reports at very high rates, so 2000 to 8000 Hz mice often read lower in a browser. Your mouse's own software is the reliable place to confirm those settings.

Why is the reading low when I move slowly?

Many mice only send a report when the position changes. Slow movement creates fewer changes, so move quickly for an accurate reading.

Does a higher polling rate matter?

Higher rates lower input delay slightly and make cursor movement smoother on high refresh rate screens. A steady 1000 Hz is plenty for most players.
