    About the zoom mic test

    Updated

When people in a meeting can't hear you, it's either your microphone or the meeting app's settings. This test checks the microphone on its own: it shows the input level and live spectrum, lets you pick which microphone to use, and records a short clip so you can hear your volume and background noise. If the mic works here but not in Zoom, the fix is in Zoom's audio settings or your system's privacy settings.

    How to use it

    1. Allow microphone access when your browser asks.
    2. Pick the same microphone you use in Zoom, such as your headset rather than the laptop's built-in mic.
    3. Speak at your normal volume and check the level moves well above the floor.
    4. Record a short clip and play it back to judge volume, clarity and background noise.

    Frequently asked questions

My mic works here but not in Zoom. What now?

In Zoom open Settings, then Audio, and pick the same microphone under Microphone. Then check your system lets Zoom use the mic: on Windows under Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone, and on a Mac under System Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone.

Why do I sound quiet in meetings?

The input level is too low or the mic is too far away. Raise the input volume in your system's sound settings or in Zoom's audio settings, and keep the mic within about an arm's length.

    Is my recording uploaded?

No. The recording stays in your browser's memory and is discarded when you leave the page.
